Exceptional Athletes – Richard Pearce (Athletics)

  • Convincingly won Gold in the 800 metres event at the 1989 Deaflympics, Christchurch, New Zealand with a breathtaking time of 1.54:56.
  • Narrowly missed out on a second gold by a whisker at the finishing line in the 1500 metres.
  • Represented Great Britain at the European Athletics and Cross Country Championships (1987, 1991) winning a great tally of 7 medals.
  • Won two more medals at the 1993 Deaflympics Sofia, Bulgaria - bronze in the 800 metres and 4x400 relay.
  • ICSD Athletics Technical Director for Athletics (indoors and outdoors) for 8 years (2012-2020)
  • Possibly the greatest Great Britain middle distance runner of all time.
