Captained both Warrington & North West to several National and domestic honours spanning three decades. He and his Warrington team mates, including his brother Alan were virtually unbeatable.
Compiled several century breaks and an unfinished 210 break. A very strong snooker player.
The Warrington Deaf Centre Snooker and Billiards room bears his name. The deaf players continue to compete in the Fred Barlow Snooker Cup.
Excelled in various sports especially bowls and chess – he was one of the first players to represent Great Britain in the World Deaf Chess Team Championship, Oslo, Norway 1953.
As Chairman for several years, he raised over £100,000 towards the Warrington Deaf Club .
