Exceptional Cyclists - Malcolm Lee Johnson

• Participated in 9 individual road races at three Deaflympics winning 7 medals in all - an astonishing feat:

- Washington, USA 1965 – 2 Gold and 1 Silver

- Belgrade, Yugoslavia 1969 – 2 Gold

- Malmo, Sweden 1973 – 1 Gold and 1 Silver

• The deaf Italians were fearless and strong yet he outmuscled them with great Yorkshire grit; he has a powerful physical presence on all cyclists.

• Won several Yorkshire county road races and broke a few cycling records including 1 national.

• An immortal athlete, virtually unbeaten by any GB cyclist. Well liked and respected by his rivals.

• Considered by many to be the greatest undisputed deaf sportsman in history.
