Exceptional Extreme Sports Athletes - Andrew Rees (Channel Swimming)

  • First deaf man to swim the English Channel solo in 2016 – survived brutal conditions to complete in 15 hours
  • Probably the most talented all round deaf sportsman, having represented Great Britain at 3 different sports in 4 Deaflympics – Water Polo (1985), Swimming (1989), and Tennis (1993 & 1997)
  • Won 2 gold & 1 Bronze in Swimming at Christchurch Deaflympics 1989
  • Also proficient at Rugby - helped Wales Deaf win the World Cup 2002 at Eden Park, Auckland, New Zealand
